Francesco Carrozzini was born in Italy in 1982.

Since his childhood he has shown a great deal of interest in images, and at a very early age he started making films and taking pictures with his friends.

In the summer of 1999, Francesco went to Los Angeles to study film directing at UCLA. It was there that he came to understand his deep passion for filmmaking.

In 2001 he shot his first short film, “Untitled #1”. He then enrolled at the university of Milan where he studied philosophy until 2004 when he moved to New York City.

His first assignment was directing a 30” spot for Italian MTV; the following year one of his video installations was shown in the cathedral of Milan alongside the work of artists Bill Viola and Mark Wallinger.

In 2005 the advertising agency McCann Erickson assigned him to direct the promo for the Venice Biennale Art Expo.

That same year Francesco discovered the Polish Theatre Wierszalin in New York, and in 2006 he traveled to Poland to shoot his feature film debut, a documentary about the life and creative process of the company.

During his journey through the small provinces of Poland he began photographing artists as well as individuals. He came back with a very extensive portfolio of images that helped jump-start his career as a photographer. He has since contributed to publications such as the New Yorker, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, Spin, Esquire, Italian Vogue, German Vogue, L’uomo Vogue, 10, and Liberation amongst others.

Other Projects include a spot for the sunglasses brand Ray Ban and the film series “The New York Times Screen Tests”, a collection of interviews featuring some of today’s most prestigious Hollywood stars. Francesco lives and works in New York City and once a year he teaches history of photography at the University of Venice, Italy.

Francesco is now writing his first fictional feature film and working toward the publication of a book of portraits.
